Oddly enough, I was recently discussing with a friend how we need a few fanatics on our side - people who are very religious, but not stupid. And when I say smart, I mean things like smart enough to adapt evolution into their creation stories, to understand contraception is the best way to avoid abortions, that allowing priests to marry would cut down on the pedophilia problems - people who are smart enough to know that relgion should be adaptive and responsive to the needs of the people. Lots of people feel that way, but I felt we need them to have the willpower, the strength that the Christian right has. They need to be just as scary. Because it increasingly seems that fanatical and scary gets things done.
