Back to the Crack
Apr. 1st, 2004 12:32 amWell, I was up kinda late last night writing e-mail, so I woke up a bit later today than I had intended to. Even so, NPR was buzzing away on the radio when I regained consciousness, and I slowly came to remember that today was Air America Radio's first day. Sleepily, I spun the archaic dial that controls the receiving frequency on my clock radio, and I assumed I'd found the right spot when I heard what basically amounted to songs of the revolution. The lack of talk was weird, though, so I wondered if I'd slept through the initial programming. Eventually I rolled out of bed and onto the 'Net and found that the actual premiere wasn't until noon. Sweet.
I killed time listening to Loveline, which I was pleasantly surprised to find had Greg Proops as a guest. Awesome! If you don't know the name, he's a very funny comedian. Good stand-up, and a semi-regular on Who's Line Is It Anyway? If memory serves, I think I once saw him also hosting a game show on the Game Show Network. Anyway, he's a talented, funny guy and last night's show was pretty good. (As an aside, you learn the craziest things while hyperlinking. How did I not know that he was in The Phantom Menace? He spoke Huttese, for Christ's sake! The man's range is formidable. :) ) Anyway, that killed some time before AAR hit the scene. Somewhere in there, James (
kawaiiryuko) came back from his all-nighter at work and passed out for the day.
I didn't pay as much attention to AAR as I probably should have, but I caught much of The O'Franken Factor, and a little bit of stuff later on. Sadly, I didn't catch any of The Majority Report, which is Janeane Garofalo's thing, since that's when the household is active, but I figure I'll check it out one of these days. I'm realizing that talk radio isn't a great thing for me. It preys on my lack of ability to multitask, so if I were to devote time to catching AAR shows, my life would probably return to something much resembling the Dark Times of Too Much TV, and no one wants that. :)
I had a pretty interesting 'Net experience today, in which I was reminded that I not only have a website, but also a guestbook still hanging around. I know this because somebody signed it. First time in like a year-and-a-half, not counting Noothan's bizarre appearance when I was MIA. A little investigation showed that this new visitor came to find me through loner channels, so I thought that was pretty interesting. (This person was also, by the way, the intended recipient of my earlier mini-post.) Anyway, it was just interesting to me...in that some forgotten technology doesn't necessarily die...it just sits around and waits to be used again. :) I felt a small amount of embarrassment, though...it's like having an unexpected guest drop by and having your house be a shambles. Made me think about trying to get the Den back into some kind of order. We shall see. :)
After James rose from the dead, a little family time was spent with some video games and Scrabble and such. I lucked out again in Scrabble, dropping yet another tray-emptying word. This time it was "acquire," simultaneously giving me the seven-letter drop, the burning of a 'q,' and a double-word score. I was pleased. I know the luck can't hold out forever, but it's fun while it lasts. We were also having a little chat outside at some point and we talked a little bit about the Romanian vampire hunters from before. There's a semi-significant police presence in our neighborhood, and I was a little chagrined to have a pair of cops walk by right when I was talking about digging up a dead body and eating its heart. That's twice now. The last time I got caught in such a situation, I was telling James about my gun-bong idea. I used to feel a bit nervous about such things, but nowadays I make myself feel better by telling myself that I'm not in any trouble unless I flip them off. ;)
Oh, for the fans among you, and I know there are many, let it be known that March 31st marked the anniversary of the birth of our dear, dear Christopher Walken. Happy Birthday!
Hmm...seems like a pretty light day. :) I'll leave you with this, then. "Hey, you got your Super Mario Bros. in my Matrix!" "No, I didn't. You got your Matrix in my Super Mario Bros." "Mmmmm...Super Mario Reloaded. Enjoy. :)
Peace, everybody. :)
