What universe is this?

So I'm sitting around watching CNN with my mom, as tends to happen, and I see a quick blurb about a cruise ship getting attacked by pirates. Okay, that's fine...pirates are cool, and it probably means that global warming is under control. What CNN failed to mention, though, was the use of sonic weapons in repelling this pirate attack! Now that's cool. I feel like I'm watching a Torg game unfold.
