Things done and not done
Sep. 1st, 2006 03:29 pmYesterday I made it to my scheduled appearance at the employment service place to see if I could get money from the state to send me to dealer training. It turns out I probably could, but it also turns out that I'm not going to. The process involved would be complicated and slow, and I'm anxious to get started quickly, especially since there's a class starting so soon. If I wanted to make this next cycle of classes, there's just no way I could get through the job center process on time. On top of all that...well, it just really didn't feel right. I know this is out there, but part of that might have had to do with a recent discussion on government handouts. If so, it was a small part...it was just something I couldn't help thinking about. More likely, it's probably just my inherent fear of bureaucracy. Also I just didn't feel like I was quite the target audience for that place. Must be my sheltered and privileged upbringing (ha), but there are people who need help, and there are people who need help, know what I'm sayin'? I have more options than some...I think I'll exercise them. Anyway...it would be a waste of windfall if I didn't put it toward something productive. :) So...no state money for me.
With that, I was going to head to A.C. today to register for dealer school and probably sneak in a little poker while I was in town. As things turned out, though, this is our time for getting socked with mad stormage, so I figured it would be a good day to stay in. Also I'm working on some online poker bonus money, so hey. Anyway, I called the school up and I'm going to go in and register on Tuesday (after the holiday). Man, Labor Day totally snuck up on me, I gotta say. Well, most holidays do, I guess; not having a job makes me not really notice that stuff. Anyway, as you might expect...no plans. I was going to try some outdoor chores this weekend, but the storm says otherwise, so...more loafing for me.
Ah, the storm. Really, there's not a lot of rain coming down in my area, though there is some, but the wind. Dear God, the wind. I will never mock tornado warnings again! Anyway, I don't think we're reaching property damage levels or anything, but it's pretty...uh...energetic out there. As always, I think the homestead plant life is getting rocked out there. Whaddaya gonna do...nature begets nature. I'm sure it'll sort itself out. In any case...it's supposed to be gnarly out this way today and tomorrow. Certainly the weather map isn't looking very encouraging.

A wee bit later, and I have just had a phone convo with Momz. I now have a few homesteading errands to run, so I'll wrap this post up. Peace out, everybody!
