A place without time
Dec. 9th, 2006 12:21 pmSo...casinos are sort of famous for not wanting you to know what time it is. There are no clocks on the casino floor, for example. These places are completely enclosed environments with no windows or other indications of the state of the outside world (or even the existence of the outside world). That's just how they roll.
The other night I was passing through Bally's Park Place on the way home from class, and as I walked through a particular hallway on my way to the casino floor, I noticed the piped-in music was playing "Wake Me Up When Semptember Ends" by Green Day. I didn't pay it much mind...I just noticed it because it's catchy and sentimental. But then the next morning, I was walking a very similar route on the way to class, and I happend to pass through the same hallway as I had the night before. Coincidentally, the exact same song was playing on the piped-in music, and I had this weird sort of...reverse déjà vu...where I wondered if perhaps I hadn't imagined all the intervening time between the "first" time I experienced this scene and the second...whether maybe it really still was the night before. Mildly disorienting. Didn't fuck me up too bad, but I suddenly felt a bit more sleepy than I should have. :)
Anyway...just thought I'd share. Beyond that, I guess there's been a bit of excitement this week.
( What's the buzz )
