Good times here in Robland recently, as [livejournal.com profile] panyang swung down for the weekend and we got to hang out for a couple solid days of lounging around and doing nothing. (That's my weekend, mind you, not the weekend for normal humans.) We got a few movies in, got a few diner-esque meals down (or as best we can do in A.C., anyway), and generally lazed about and chilled. Astoundingly, we played no video games. This may be a landmark in our history of spending time together, but there you go. In any case, though, glad I got to spend some time with her during her brief return to the U.S.

In less chipper local news, two poker players got in a fight at the Taj Mahal this weekend and a guy ended up getting stabbed to death. A lot of details of the situation are contradictory in various reports, but the tone and spin most closely matching my own feelings are in this Wicked Chops post. The long and short of it is that it was an argument-turned-violent over who had the rights to an open seat in a poker game. A $1/$2 poker game, which is the smallest stakes no-limit game you can find in this town. What a fucking tragedy. Plus the guy died from bleeding out from a cut to his cheek. His cheek! And lest anybody think this is a case of young hooligans getting rowdy, the people involved in this fight were in their 50s and 60s. One of the weapons used in this melee was a walking cane. I mean, come on. So, anyway, there you go. Another black eye for the Taj, another poker-related death, another senseless act of violence. And the world keeps turning.

Well, time to shuffle off to work. Here's to hoping for no knife fights. Peace!
