Things I learned today
Dec. 20th, 2009 07:38 pm1. Don't shovel snow while wearing sneakers. You're not going to do yourself any favors.
2. When heaving a shovelful of snow away, don't do it upwind of yourself. Sadly it took me several repetitions to learn this before I realized that it wasn't actually snowing again, that I was just snowing on myself.
3. Don't use a shovel that's significantly shorter than you are. Shoveling while stooped is a recipe for a largely immobile rest of the day.
Also, I spent a not insignificant amount of time trying to excavate a particularly stubborn block of ice out on the back porch before it finally all came out in one chunk and I learned that it was actually the frozen stiff welcome mat.
Live and learn, everybody.
