You know how it is: the weekend's almost here, your brain has already checked out, and no one wants to do any work anyway. Time for a ten-minute break!

So...I'm listening to a lot of podcasts now. Not a lot, but, you know...more than before. Which was zero. Anyway. One of the regular shows I listen to is a weekly offering from the excellent stand-up comedian Larry Miller. This show, the excitingly titled This Week with Larry Miller, is (of course) part of Adam Carolla's ACE Broadcasting Network.

Besides being a hero of stand-up comedy, you may recognize Larry Miller from any of an astounding array of TV and movie appearances. For most, he took the world by storm as the guy in the dress shop in Pretty Woman. For some, he's a staple of the troupe that keeps showing up in those Christopher Guest movies (the hostage negotiator in Best In Show, the mayor in Waiting for Guffman). For some, he's that doorman from Seinfeld. For an unfortunate few, he's the evil, EVIL clown in that Carnival of Souls remake. For a very select even fewer, he's the CPA from the highly underrated Pros & Cons. (A movie which, in my opinion, doesn't get nearly enough props.)

Larry's great love, though, and also the biggest reason we love him, is stand-up. For today's break, I'd like to take a little trip in the Wayback Machine to revisit the bit that put him on the map, at least as far as I'm concerned. It's a true classic, and quite possibly my most favorite stand-up bit of all time. It's the origin of such classic quotes as "If we bought our own bar, we could live together forever!", "God's flashlight," and of course, "WE'RE DRIVIN' TO FLORIDA!!!"

Ladies and gentlemen, Larry Miller's "Five Levels of Drinking."
