Just passing through
Jul. 9th, 2019 10:50 pmI'm not really re-opining shop yet, I don't think, but I wanted to get a post in while I had a chance. As was foretold, long weekend was spent traveling and chilling at the NH retreat, which was pretty nice. Got some swimming in, stayed up long into the night talking leftist revolution and so forth. The usual good times. Good to see people again. The only mar, and it was a big one, is that on the way back home we got rear-ended on the interstate. We're mostly okay...Gb got a mild concussion, so we're keeping an eye on that, but otherwise we're fine. It looked like we took a lot of damage to the rear of the car, but everything was still operable, so we were able to drive the rest of the way back without incident. The other guy's car...not so much. That thing got wrecked. Anyway...we already dropped the car off at the shop, and it's gonna be at least a couple weeks. Turns out the damage was way more extensive than it looked. Nothing vital was hit, but a bunch of stuff crumpled (like it was supposed to) so there's a lot that has to be replaced.
So ordinarily we'd be fine sharing a car with Lt, but the complication on this particular timing was that I was set to go to QCC this coming weekend. So I've got a rental for a week. Not sure if we're going to keep it beyond that, but if we get reimbursed then...probably, yeah. We'll see how that goes, but (as always) one thing at a time.
So QCC is coming this weekend, and between that and the unexpected aftermath of the shit to take care of from the crash, I have very little work time this week. I already pushed FaFDM. I just had to; I couldn't see how I was going to get that done given the timetable. Today I whipped up a quick GS article, which...I mean, it's fine. It'll do, ya know? Tomorrow I've gotta do a GS edit to make sure that can ship Thursday morning. And then I'm supposed to take off on Thursday, but I think it might be a bit of a late departure and I may have to take the morning to just kind of prep Gauntlet stuff and maybe even pack if I don't get a chance tomorrow. So...yeah. Bit of a rush this week, and the usual event horizon of scheduling so I can't really set anything up for next week yet, so I'm just kinda hanging on and banking on making it through the con before I start setting up...well, like, everything else, basically. On the upside, QCC is the last big thing I've got for a while as far as trips and cons and stuff. I think I'm pretty much clear until November for Metatopia. (Well, there's also Gauntlet Con in October, but that's more like regular work with just a dedicated weekend at the end.) With that in mind, I have two big goals in the meantime (post-QCC). Well, a minor big goal and a major, major big goal. Minor is to finally sit down and do some catchup on my inbox. Major stuff is a job. I really gotta buckle down and get some income settled. It's time.
So anyway. That's my short term and my medium term. I'm thinking I may not blog again until after QCC. There's just too much going on. If I can just get the work I need to do done this week, I'll be happy enough with that, and then if I make it to and through QCC, then I'll be happy with that, too. One step at a time. Then...the rest of life remains after that. :)
So, yeah, I may or may not blog again tomorrow. But chances are high I'll hit the road on Thursday for the con and then be back Sunday night. I should really schedule Monday as a recovery day; I think I'm gonna need it. I'll see if I can pair that with catchup day or what. But...yeah. That's next week's problem. :) Probably be back to the blog then.
