As I was saying...

Blogging has taken on kind of a weird texture for me lately. Trying to get a new substantive post up has given me the feeling that I'm trying to rejoin a conversation in progress, only I've recently been distracted and have not only forgotten what I was going to say, but also managed to lose track of what we're actually talking about. I guess it's not a super-new situation or anything...there have definitely been times in the past when I wrestled with "blogger's block." So, really, I'm just going to try and spew out an update and move on, despite all my recent efforts at delaying this moment by posting links and quemes.
So.
I had a brief-but-exciting trip to New York. I spent time with Steph, played a lot of poker online, and watched a lot of OnDemand movies. I like when I'm staying at El Castillo and I can watch OnDemand movies; I get to see all sorts of shit that I wouldn't normally see. This isn't necessarily a good thing, mind you...I generally see a lot of crap. But I enjoy it, and it's a good way to kill time. The household also busted out the Munchkin Fu, which was pretty fun, and I was introduced to Super Mario Strikers, the Mario soccer game, which is also quite fun. Steph and I also tried to push on a little further in Thousand Year Door, but we didn't advance that much. The real video game score, though, was Guitar Hero, imported to El Castillo courtesy of Steph. Man, that shit is fun. I discovered heretofore unknown desire in myself to become a rock star. I also hit Gemini for a bit of roleplaying, which really shouldn't be as much of a novelty in my life as it is. I also got to see Rigel (back for a bit from Iraq), so that's always nice. He seems well and still has all his body parts and whatnot.
Then...back to SoJo. I'm once again housebound while I take care of the homestead in my mom's absence. Her trip is shorter this time than last time; she'll be back later this week, but I'm once again enjoying a bit of solitude in the house here. More and more I'm reminded of how much I miss out on by not having my own place; I continue to think wistfully in that direction. In the meantime, I'm living it up by doing my shopping and preparing my meals and stuff, much as I'd do if I was out on my own. One of the first things that happened to me when I got back to SoJo was that the sandals that I wear around the house broke, so I've gone back to house slippers for a while. The fact that I just blogged that is pretty much an open invitation for anyone who wants to to come down here and kill me dead.
In between bouts of utter pointlessness, I've been spending some time with my latest Blockbuster rental, a PS2 game called PsychoNauts, which I've actually found quite fun. It's about this summer camp for psychic kids, and it's just a completely wacky, trippy game, as much of it is spent in people's bizarre mental landscapes. I actually just finished the game today, so it made for a great rental game in that now I can bring it back and not have to think about it any more. It was fun while it lasted, though, and I didn't find any of it super hard or anything until the end, which took me lots of repeats to get through. If I owned it, I'd probably play it again, because I didn't get everything done in the game that you can get done, but the extent to which you can get things done is neatly and totally outlined for you, so after that one replay I'd probably never touch the thing again. Like I said, a great rental.
Aside from that and the idiot box, I've basically done nothing but cook and eat. I've learned a few things. 1) It wasn't just a phase; golden delicious apples really are my all-time favorite kind of apple. 2) Left to my own devices, I consume bread at an alarming rate. 3) Sardines in hot sauce...well, the next day, my asshole burned like a motherfucker. Usually, I'm a sardines-canned-in-tomato-sauce kind of guy...I don't like the oil so much, but I need a little something beyond water for my sardines to swim in. My local grocery store both shocked and appalled me by not having sardines in tomato sauce. Who doesn't have sardines in tomato sauce?! Already knowing how I'd feel about water and oil, I tried some other offerings, namely mustard and, of course, hot sauce. In contrast to my tastes as a younger lad, I've sort of grown away from eating spicy things as I've gotten older, so even choking the bastards down in the first place was a bit of a challenge. Releasing them back into the wild, though...well that brought spicy, spicy tears to my eyes. Never again.
Other than that, I suppose there's not a whole hell of a lot to report on from down here. Snow happened, of course (as all my friends in the Northeast are now painfully aware). The blizzard didn't hit my neck of the woods as hard as it seems to have hit other places (like New York), thought I can't say that's a huge surprise. All the same, everything's covered in snow around these parts, much to the dog's utter delight. He does enjoy his romps in the snow.
It's been rather a slow day around here, mostly due to the weather. I'm condemned to a largely pasta-based day today, as I really don't feel like hitting the store for more bread. My Internet access is lame today, since bad weather seems to be one of the two things that foil my attempts to leech wireless Internet (the other thing being use of my own microwave). That said, I've still tried to do more online catching up in addition to trimming down some of my involvement in things; I've unjoined a few mailing lists and trimmed my LJ feeds down a little and so forth, in anticipation of the coming of my loss of my free time. I also helped track a dollar bill today with Where's George?, since I got a stamped bill the other day, I believe at the grocery store. My entry was the second one, and the initial entry was made from right here in my little SoJo town. It always shocks me to encounter independent confirmation of this town's existence. Well, more accurately, the existence of other people living here, since in my mind the population of this place is about seven people. My reaction to seeing this guy on Where's George? was bizarre, mostly because I wanted to know who he was. I went through several stages of madness, including the one where I want to sign up for Where's George and e-mail this guy to let him know that I got one of his dollars. I also considered making Where's George my new obsessive hobby. Then I stopped all of that, because I am clearly being driven insane. Why, I do not know, but the whys aren't as important as the what-can-I-do-about-its. I'm working on it.
With that, I actually had the rather brilliant idea just now of maybe going out for a walk; weather be damned. I haven't left the house in a couple days, so it would probably do me a lot of good to get out and breathe a little outside air. Hell, maybe I'll even go so far as to pick up some bread. In any case, I now consider myself updated, so maybe the next entry won't be so tough to post. Peace!
P.S. Spotted on the Internet: A banner ad reading: "Sure, it worked for The Simpsons. But experts do not recommend deliberately infecting your kids with chickenpox." Really? We need an ad for that? I will be truly horrified to learn that this has become a problem somewhere.
P.P.S. Tonight on Bravo, Inside the Actor's Studio (8 PM?) will feature Dave Chappelle (back from his self-imposed exile), if anyone's interested, so I think I'll be catching that. (I also caught Screwed on TV the other day; any Dave Chappelle is good Dave Chappelle.)
P.P.P.S. Retarded computer UI design decision of the day: My Windows dial-up informed me that the connection couldn't be made because my username/password was incorrect. It then gave me a chance to try again, so I did. It then redialed and attempted to make a new connection...without giving me a chance to change my username and password. Thanks, guys.
