I like it here
Sep. 4th, 2005 06:53 pmWelcome to my life in Vegas at what looks like is coming up to be the close of week two. I don't know much about showbiz or whatever, but my sister's show is in previews, I guess, and opening night is coming up soon, but it looks like the super-insane rehearsal part is winding down. She's not keeping quite the insane hours she used to, but she's still spending plenty of time at the casino, and that means...so am I. I have to say, I've been pretty pleased with the poker here...I'm not sure yet what's going to get me out of here, short of my sister kicking me out of her place. So I'm just doing the usual...taking care of business as I can and largely letting life pass me by. I can dig it. Though, as is apparent by now, I have not made it back to New York for the Rigel BBQ, so I hope that went well and I hope Rigel is doing great and all.
For my own part, I've been eating a lot of Mexican food. The 24-hour Mexican joint by my sister's place is my new favorite feeding ground, so I head down there pretty often. I noticed the other day that a new store opened up next door and is celebrating their grand opening: a tanning salon. Jigga wha? Vegas has many things in plenty, and among those things is sunlight. Great, heaping quantities of sunlight, every day, available everywhere and for free. Is there a lot of business here for a tanning salon? I mean...I sort of don't get tanning salons in general, but this really takes the cake. I can only assume it's some kind of front. But, Christ, this is Vegas...what could you possibly need to front for? The mystery continues.
I've been thinking a lot lately about life in general...like what I'm going to do with it. I don't have my records on me, sadly, but I do believe this poker "experiment" has been going on for about a year at this point. A year! That's craziness. :) It certainly has not been the dismal failure I thought it was going to be when I was a week or so into it, but neither has it been the resounding success I had so hoped for. It is, I guess, like most things in life I idealize, less than I'd wished for, but certainly better than it could have turned out. I'm not thinking so much of abandoning ship at this point as I am assuming that any attempts to do something else will sort of lead to wandering away from poker.
In my life, I've never been much good at multitasking, in the large-scale sense. I've only ever really done one thing at a time...the times where I've tried more than that have more or less met with disaster. I just don't have that great of an attention span, when you get down to it; I think the most I've ever tacked on to a normal life was running an RPG, and even then, if memory serves, I think my working life was effectively part-time by then. I've been wondering if I could somehow combine work with poker, or if I'd be better off taking time off from poker and just working at something else for a while, or what. Because things have been going so well in Vegas, I've sort of been able to delay thoughts about the future, but I know that kind of operation can't last forever. I guess there's not really much to be gleaned from this line of thinking...it's just sort of there...percolating in the background. I'll try to get back to this later, but soon I'll be headed back off to the poker tables, delaying the rest of my life for yet a little bit longer. Again...I can dig it. :)
So for lack of other things to post about, here are the customary catchup web quizzes and memes. Whee!
