Labor Day

My sister had today off from work, and so that meant so did I. I spent most of the day loafing around, frankly. I did some online catchup and some writing and such, and a lot of reading. So far since I've been out in Vegas, I finished Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, and I also read Slaughterhouse-Five and Monstrous Regiment, all of which I brought with me. I've also been picking at some books on my sister's shelves, but just some light stuff...something by Bill Maher comes to mind. Oh, and I also picked up Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim by David Sedaris, just cuz I like David Sedaris and I saw the book on sale at the local grocery store (?!). This book was way different than the others of his I'd read, by the way. I mean...similar in format, but less hilarious and more...I dunno...poignant? Still nice to have read it, though.

My sister made a really nice dinner tonight, all grilled (there are gas grills laying around at various points in the community, apparently). We celebrated Labor Day, I suppose, and just spent a quiet evening in. Labor Day also means pretty much the end of the tourist season back in SoJo, so my mom's work should be tapering off until next summer rolls around, so that's good for her, I do believe. She works herself really hard in the summer; I think it takes its toll. I'm glad she'll have many, many months to take it easy now, should she choose. I'm just worried about what that means for my life when I go back there. ;)

I guess that train of thought from yesterday is still kicking around my head, especially during a lot of idle time I had today. I suppose it's getting me closer to voluntarily leaving Vegas to head back east and try to get something done with myself, hopefully something that will put some more cash in the bank. Every thought in that direction, though, makes me worry, and I can't really evaluate whether my fears are well-founded or not. I semi-had this discussion with my sister, but I'd like to get my thoughts out here, too, at the very least so I can have them on record.

A self-serving whine )
