Feast of All Souls
Oct. 31st, 2006 03:38 amSo tonight was a little Halloween parade-like thing in my little town. Momz wanted to check it out and I tagged along. It was pretty classic, actually. It was mostly little kids in costume and their keepers and a motley collection of homemade floats, but there was also a bunch of public safety vehicles, local companies, local politicians, and the local high school marching band. I'm not expert, by the way, but I thought that marching band was actually pretty good. Anyway...the whole thing really took me back; I haven't been to a setup like that since some time back in my small town childhood. This thing was probably, I don't know...maybe ten blocks long. We didn't stay out for the whole thing, but we saw most of it, and we were probably only out about half-an-hour. Way back in the day in my little Kansas podunk, we had a town parade that followed a route that was a whopping three blocks long. Actually they'd go the three blocks and then turn around and come back, so I guess they squeezed six blocks' worth out of that. Anyway. All I'm sayin' is you don't get stuff like that in New York.
