Anticlimax
Nov. 19th, 2006 01:00 pmSeriously, man...what a letdown. :) So last night I was all keyed up for my first dealing gig, and I was pretty nervous and anticipatory on the long-ass car ride up to the site. The gig turned out to be a fundraiser, and was basically a dinner buffet and some casino games for...uh...some people. Anyway, it shook out that I got assigned to deal poker, which was basically ideal for me. By the end of the night, I was the only dealer there who hadn't dealt a single hand. I sat there the whole night with my cards spread out on the table and with a smile plastered on. The closest I came to doing anything was when one guy wandered up and asked if he could play me heads-up. Sadly, no. Otherwise, I basically just sat around and stared off into space.
What a rip! So my inaugural dealer experience involved absolutely no dealing. Still...I get paid all the same, and at least I've got something I can put on paper now, but man. Somehow...knowing my first deal will really be my second time just makes it less...special. Ah, well.
Anyway. It was also a long-ass car ride back to Atlantic City, then a while sitting around A.C. waiting for NJ Transit's middle-of-the-night schedule to be able to take me home, then crash. Then a butt-early wake-up for my free county-provided flu vaccination. Then I came home and spent a couple hours painting more fence...hopefully the bringing to a close that little adventure. And now...that's it. I'm burnt. Didn't get enough sleep. I'm going to spend the day watching football. And, with any luck, stuffing my face. Probably I'll eventually pass out. So it goes. I haven't even caught up on my blog reading or anything...just wanted to dash off this post.
And that, friends, is mad unexciting. :) I guess, techinically, I could be called a dealer now. Except that it's fake-ass non-casino dealing, and I haven't actually, you know, dealt. But other than that...yeah...dealer. Hopefully the next tale will hold a little more action. :)
