NFL Week 11 Results
Nov. 21st, 2006 09:57 amWell, as promised, here's my results for Week 11, actually posted near to the end of Week 11. In addition...starting with Week 12, it looks like the NFL week will be starting on Thursdays now for the rest of the season, thanks to the advent of Thursday Night Football, so now my NFL schedule will be all shot to hell. :) In any case...this was a bit of a poor week for the system, but all things considered, it could have been a lot worse.
I actually don't have a lot to say about the first wave of Sunday afternoon games. All other observations I had were overshadowed by watching the Eagles completely disintegrate. Unlike previous weeks, I was free to enjoy the Eagles game as an Eagles supporter, since although the system still chose their opponent over them, it was an OFF game and so wouldn't affect my net. So although the system should have been wrong about Titans/Eagles, it turned out to be right, much to the general disappointment of my household. That, and the fact that McNabb basically tripped, fell, and took himself right out of the season, led to a fairly disappointing start to this NFL week. Anyway, by the end of Sunday afternoon's first wave, I was facing an exceedingly poor percentage of successful picks. I guess this is what happens when you pick so many underdogs in one week. This may not bode well for the Always Bet The Underdog system. ;) The pain may be too much!
For the second wave, Momz and I decided to watch the Niners. We knew my aunt (my mom's sister) back in the Bay Area had a vested interest in the game since her neighbor is a big Seahawks fan, and they had some kind of rivalry going there. I believe water balloons may have been involved. In any case, San Francisco dominated so much in the first half that it seemed like the Colts/Cowboys was going to be a more exciting game, so we watched that, instead. And it was, indeed, a more exciting game. The endgame was pretty disappointing for the Colts, I must say, but good for the system. Once again, though, it was an OFF game, not affecting my net. For those keeping score, that meant that this week, the system was 2 for 2 on OFF games, possibly making this the first week in which the OFF games lost me money instead of saving it. I don't know what the moneyline would have been like for the Colts/Cowboys, but I have a feeling the Titans upsetting the Eagles would have been a huge score for me. Ah, well.
Sunday night was a rollercoaster. I had pretty much given up hope on the Chargers until an amazing third quarter rally put them back in the game. When they pulled ahead in the fourth, I was shocked. And the final minutes of the game? Forget it...it was awesome. So the Chargers ended up squeezing in a win, actually giving me a small amount of hope for the week. Sunday afternoon had put me a decent amount down, but with the Chargers win, I could actually escape the week without losing money if the Giants also won. Monday night awaited...
Monday night came and went without any fanfare, really. The Giants just could not get it together, and I don't think there was any point at which it looked like they might actually come from behind and win. The only reason it wasn't a complete disaster for them was that the Jaguars kept inexplicably fucking up chances to score. In the final analysis, though, the Giants fucked up more. Bad week for the Mannings. So I exit this week booking a small loss, but it's certainly a bit better than I would have expected, considering how the first wave went.
( Details and results )So there ya go. Anyway, look for Week 12 in just a day or two, methinks, since we've got three games this Thursday in addition to the weekend. I was thinking...this would probably be more interesting with other people involved, so...if you like, get me your picks and I'll track the results for you if you like. Take a chance. :) Peace, everybody.
