New tricks
Dec. 6th, 2019 11:37 pmWhere to begin. I mean...not that there's so much, I literally am just having trouble deciding where to start. :)
Well let me start with this: more granular tracking of how I spend my time is definitely eye-opening! I'm glad I'm doing it, and hopefully it will let me plan for things better, if not execute better. But, yeah, just as a matter of being able to look back on my day and see what I did (or didn't!) get done is pretty helpful. Hopefully I can keep this up.
So. Spent the morning today on various dailies and adminny type stuff, and then I spent the afternoon pod editing. Reaper's going a lot smoother now. Well...maybe not a lot, but smoother, anyway, so that's good. I may just have to reorient whole ways of thinking, not just tweaking techniques and habits. But I ended the day with a rough cut, which is where I wanted to be on ECB by now, so that's good. And there's no doubt that it's a powerful piece of software. I'm starting to get to the part where I have to start making decisions like "is it worth the time and effort to customize this thing to get it to work the way I want, or is the time and effort better spent learning new ways to work so I don't have to customize this thing." I guess I always hit that point with new software. :) But, yeah...I think just for the sound correction ease and the stability, it may be worth it to commit to using Reaper now, so...that feels right. Still, it's not even a whole episode that I've worked on yet, so I'm in no rush to make a decision. Just...that's the way things are leaning right now.
T's super busy with school stuff (and to be honest, the only reason I made it to rough cut today was because I had a couple extra hours to work on the thing during the night shift, since T is working on her stuff). She should have it wrapped up tonight, though, so tomorrow will probably be a chill day. Well, I mean...I'll still have work to do. :) But no more than usual...just the OtT cleanup and stuff before Monday. Oh dang, and I've got the rescheduled family lunch on Monday, come to think of it. Musn't forget that, either, and schedule accordingly.
I guess closing thought...it's totally Friday night, and I did zero on the job hunt this week. So it goes. I also really need to do some inboxing. Yeah...I need an admin day. I know I say this all the time, but...maybe this weekend! Maybe next week! This is why I need schedules, I guess, and also why I need time tracking.
Anyway. It's late, my work is done, and I'm looking forward to some quality bed time. Onward!
